Mogu’shan Vaults is undoubtedly one of the more important raids in MoP Classic Phase 1, both in terms of playability and the amount of loot available, so it’s best to complete it as soon as possible before more Phase 1 content becomes available.
To be honest, it’s not an easy task, as the raid consists of six boss encounters, each with unique mechanics that require careful coordination with your teammates and careful memorization to defeat them.

If you’ve ever traded WoW MoP Classic gold and read articles and news about the game at IGGM.com, you’re probably aware that the bosses in Mogu’shan Vaults are:
- The Stone Guard
- Feng the Accursed
- Gara’Jal the Spiritbinder
- The Spirit Kings
- Elgalon
- Will of the Emperor
With that in mind, this article will provide a guide to the fight against The Spirit Kings’ bosses. This fight consists of four phases and promises to be a protracted battle, so you and your teammates must be vigilant!
The Spirit Kings Overview
The four Spirit Kings phases actually represent four different mini-bosses, meaning that to complete the entire Spirit Kings campaign, you must defeat the following in order:
- Qiang the Merciless
- Subetai the Swift
- Zian of the Endless Shadow
- Meng the Demented
Despite the large number of bosses, they’re not difficult to defeat. The Spirit Kings’ campaign emphasizes skill over power. To this end, it’s best to save your most powerful skills for each boss’s active phase, especially those with long cooldown DPS abilities.
Also, you should pre-equip specific PvE gear based on the characteristics of each mini-boss encounter. If you don’t have any, please redeem them promptly through MoP Classic gold or special points & currency.
Phase 1
In order, the first boss you’ll face in The Spirit Kings is Qiang the Merciless. First, have your team’s tank role charge Qiang into the center of the room and immediately move behind him when he casts Annihilate.
When he casts Massive Attacks, ensure there are enough players in front of him to share the damage and prevent allies from being killed. When Qiang casts Impervious Shield, hold off attacking until the skill expires.
Next, during Flanking Orders, direct the tank to lead the team to a safe escape while you continue attacking the boss. When Qiang the Merciless’s health is reduced to 30%, Subetai the Swift will appear, marking the beginning of a new phase.
Phase 2
To minimize the time of facing two bosses simultaneously, you must first kill Qiang the Merciless as soon as Phase 2 begins. Note that even after his death, he will continue to cast Flanking Orders, which you can handle as in Phase 1.
Next, use a similar strategy to Qiang to push Subetai the Swift to the center of the arena. He will then periodically cast Pillage and Volley, but fortunately, these are easily dodged.
Note that when Subetai casts Rain of Arrows, it’s best to force him to move to a raid member affected by Pinning Arrows, allowing him to split them apart to share the damage.
The final stage of this phase, Subetai will periodically cast Sleight of Hand, requiring you to attack him with stun rotation. If he’s not stunned, you’ll be affected by Robbed Blind, reducing your damage output.
Phase 3
Similar to the previous two phases, when Subetai’s health reaches 30%, the third boss, Zian of the Endless Shadow, will appear, marking the beginning of Phase 3.
After defeating Subetai, his Pillage and Qiang’s Flanking Orders abilities will continue to be active throughout the encounter. You’ll need to avoid these boss abilities while dealing with the new boss.
Zian’s periodic ability, Undying Shadows, targets the nearest player and continuously attacks, dealing heavy shadow damage to all nearby players.
If someone on your team is killed by this ability, the surrounding area will transform into an expanding void, damaging anyone standing within it. It’s crucial to lure the shadows away and avoid standing within the void.
Zian will then continue to cast Shadow Blast and Charged Shadows, so it’s best to spread out your ranged DPS and healing roles.
When the boss begins periodically casting Shield of Darkness, be sure to stop attacking before the effect dispels, as this will probably result in a quick wipe.
When Zian’s health drops to 30%, the final boss of The Spirit Kings, Meng the Demented, will appear, marking the beginning of Phase 4.
Phase 4
Destroy Zian quickly; his Undying Shadows ability, like the abilities of the previous two bosses, will persist throughout the encounter.
Afterward, Meng will cast Maddening Shout, dealing damage to the entire team every 3 seconds, turning the entire team hostile. Everyone must share at least 60,000 damage.
For this reason, it’s best to stand behind the boss before this ability activates and begins dealing area-of-effect damage.
Meng will then periodically switch between Crazy and Cowardice: Crazy increases his damage dealt, while Cowardice reflects incoming damage.
Comparatively, Cowardice inflicts more debuffs on your team, so healers must distribute their healing wisely during this phase, as the entire raid will take significant damage.
In general, except for Phase 1, the entire Spirit Kings boss fight operates as the “low-health old boss + a new boss” mode. Phase 2-4 also increase the burden on your team by retaining the old boss’s skill effects.
This means that as the boss fight progresses, the “force” you face increases, putting a real test on the endurance of every team member.
Therefore, in addition to gear, it’s also recommended consuming Mists of Pandaria Classic gold to obtain self-healing potions or special buffs, ensuring your own safety while also helping to relieve the pressure on your team’s healers.
This concludes our guide to completing all phases of The Spirit Kings boss fight in Mogu’shan Vaults raid. We hope this helps you complete the entire raid! Have fun!
